Yolo County gardeners invited to free pest management classes – Daily Democrat

Gardeners of all experience levels in Yolo County are invited to attend a free class on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. to learn effective methods to control unwanted critters and pests in your yard.

Sponsored by the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) and led by the Yolo County UC Master Gardeners, the class will focus on integrated pest management – a cost-effective, natural approach to pest control in yards and homes. The event will be held at the Hannah and Herbert Bauer Memorial Community Garden, adjacent to the HHSA Bauer Building, at 137 N. Cottonwood St. in Woodland.

No gardening experience is necessary to attend. Participants will gain an understanding of identifying beneficial and unwanted pests, assessing pest problems and exploring natural control methods. The session will also provide ample opportunity for questions and discussion about prevalent pest problems in the area.

This educational opportunity is provided free of charge as part of HHSA’s ongoing commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles by increasing access to fresh produce. Registration is required by Aug. 2. To register, contact Nick Gazda at Nick.Gazda@YoloCounty.org or (530) 666–8429.

Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for warm weather and bring water and sunscreen. In the event of extreme heat or poor air quality, classes will be held indoors. For more information about garden activities and upcoming classes, visit www.YoloCounty.org/Garden.
