The hidden power of dandelions

Welcome to our weekly podcast with longtime Anchorage Daily News gardening writer and author Jeff Lowenfels and co-host Jonathan White, which accompanies Jeff's weekly ADN gardening column and his popular series of books.

Jonathan is disappointed that the dandelion is turning white, but Jeff reminds him that a dandelion flower contains about 300 seeds and has great spreading powers. This starts a discussion about the hidden powers of dandelions. For example, did you know that you can use dandelions to make tea, wine, and even tempura? Also, a dandelion's taproot can grow up to 15 feet underground.

After the break, Jonathan shared an update on his new “meadow” and was amazed to see the abundance of clover growing there.
