Mexico City has no shortage of great drinking spots, but when it comes to unique cocktail experiences, Brujas is making waves throughout the industry. Located in the city's lively Roma Her Norte district, this female-led Cocktail Her Bar brings more than snacks and creative cocktails to the table. The proof is in the brains behind the award-winning bar.
“Brujas is a cocktail bar exclusively for women, and its name comes from the building in which it is housed, La Casa de las Brujas (Witch's House). Its name comes from its resemblance to a witch's hat. But it also comes from the fact that it was the home of pacita, one of Mexico's most memorable shamans,” Lozada explains. The bar's unique cocktail list is based on Mexican herbalism, highlighting herbs such as sage, rue, magnolia, rose pepper, and wildflowers.

“This cocktail program honors all the grandmothers, great-grandmothers, mothers, and women in the past who were able to cure everything from heartbreak to clinical ailments with the help of herbs, flowers, barks, and more. ” reveals Lozada. In addition to creating cocktails, Brujas' bar team also mixes sodas, tinctures, infusions, floral honeys, and more used in flavorful drinks.
Beyond Mexican herbalism, Brujas' current menu, entitled “Women in Action,” also pays homage to the women activists and writers who have inspired the bar team members in some way. Coinciding with International Women's Day on March 8, the menu features 12 cocktails named after notable women who have left a deep mark on history.

In the field of cocktail culture, Lozada himself is sure to leave an unforgettable impression. Mr. Lozada started working in the hospitality industry when he was 16 years old. In fact, it was her demonstration of her many clumsy tricks with her serving tray that led her to get the bar job. From the beginning of her bar career, she became fascinated with cocktail creation, especially the art of creating cocktails. Ultimately, it was at her world-famous cocktail bar, Her Hanky Her Panky, that Lozada was able to realize her full potential in cocktail making for the first time. She also had her experience with Pujol, which allowed her to greatly expand her understanding of Mexican flavors.
The cocktails currently on the list are inspired by indigenous Lenca defender Berta Cáceres. [+] With the theme of human rights, we will feature tequilas infused with Arabic coffee beans, Strega and Carpano Bianco.

Now, under Lozada's careful guidance, Bruajis continues to break boundaries in Mexico City's cocktail scene. The all-female bar recently earned a coveted position (No. 64) on the 2022 World's 50 Best Bars expanded list. Lozada cites some of her biggest influences as prominent women who were branded witches simply because they “had different ideas than their time.” .
So what's next for Bruhas? “Continue empowering women in the industry and creating spaces for them to play leading roles,” says Lozada flatly.
