FDA and CDC are working with state and local partners to investigate illness in a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections associated with Infinite Herbs brand organic basil. Trader Joe's has voluntarily removed all Infinite Herbs brand organic basil packed in 2.5-ounce clamshell packaging from its stores, and the product will no longer be available for sale to customers in its stores.

Infinite Herbs, LLC is cooperating with the FDA investigation and has agreed to initiate a voluntary recall. This advisory will be updated as more information becomes available.

Consumers who purchase organic basil from Trader Joe's stores in the states listed above should check their refrigerators and freezers and do not eat 2.5-ounce packages of Infinite Herbs brand organic basil.
This product is no longer sold at Trader Joe's and is probably past its expiration date. If you have already purchased organic basil from Trader Joe's and have removed it from the package or frozen it and are unsure whether it is Infinite Herbs brand, throw it away without eating or using it.
To reduce the risk of cross-contamination, follow FDA safe handling and cleaning advice and take extreme care in cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and containers that may come into contact with this product.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the contamination and whether additional products are associated with the illness. FDA will update this advisory as additional consumer safety information becomes available.
