(Hopewell Township, NJ) — The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County invite you to their annual “Evening in the Garden” on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Mercer Educational Garden (431A Federal City Road) on the grounds of Mercer County Stables in Hopewell Township.
It's sure to be a beautiful evening as seven teaching gardens come into bloom, and Rutgers University Master Gardeners will chat with you about plants, gardening, butterflies, pollinators, soil, compost, and even weeds.
There will be three mini-demonstrations on container planning and planting, harvesting and drying herbs, and equipment care and maintenance. The Butterfly Garden will feature a new swallowtail butterfly host garden. Mercer County horticulturist Justin Gray will be available to answer questions about plants and the Rutgers Master Gardener program.
“We're always invited to stop and smell the flowers,” said Mercer County Mayor Dan Benson, “and for 30 years, the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County have been helping residents not only smell the flowers, but grow some of their own. Whether you're an expert or a novice, this event is a great opportunity to learn valuable skills and enjoy networking with fellow gardeners.”
Bring your friends and neighbors and join us for the best plant party in your backyard. The event will be held rain or shine. No registration is required.

The Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County is a volunteer education outreach program of the Rutgers Cooperative Association. Master Gardeners participate in many volunteer programs throughout the county. If you have questions about your home garden, plants, lawns or insects, come to the Rutgers Cooperative Association of Mercer County Helpline office Monday through Friday to speak to a Rutgers Master Gardener volunteer.
