Police on Tuesday arraigned a 55-year-old herbalist, Kabiru Amuda, at an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court, Ibadan, over an alleged 2.5 million naira charm fraud.
Amuda, who has not given his address, is on trial on charges of obtaining money by fraud and theft but has pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Iyabo Oladoyin, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in Ilora, Oyo State, about June.
Oladoyin alleged that the defendant received the money from one Taofeek Ogungbe on the pretext that he wanted to provide traditional talismans to increase his business and personal wealth.
She told the court that the defendant’s failure to provide the agreed services constituted an offence contrary to Sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Adebola Adeola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of three million naira with two sureties in the same sum.
She adjourned the case to August 20 for hearing.
