Herbalist Day – April 17, 2024

History of Herbalist Day

Herbalism is the study of plants and herbs, usually for medicinal purposes. Throughout history, herbalists focused primarily on studying plants and selling solutions and plants to use for their healing properties. This field of research has evolved over the past few decades, and herbalists can now prepare medicinal plants in a variety of ways and sell them in pharmacies and online herbal stores.

Although this practice dates back to early human life, the profession of herbalist became a specialty in the Middle Ages. This profession especially grew in his 12th century. As of the 17th and 18th centuries, several universities across Europe had specialized courses and degrees for herbalists, and there were also several institutions specialized in this profession.

Although herbalists are still recognized in many countries, there are far fewer specialized university courses on the subject. The study of herbs was further specialized in the second half of his 20th century and became part of pharmacology and medicine. Although herbalism is now part of several scientific disciplines, courses dedicated to herbalism still exist.

The practice of herbal medicine is still very common today as we always rely on herbs for various purposes. However, the difference is that this profession is much different than it was a few centuries ago. In recent years, several initiatives and cooperation programs have been organized in several countries to renew herbalism.
