Growing Together: Community Garden Meet-Up a Success

Members of the Keep Statesboro Block Beautiful Committee hosted a social event at the Statesboro Community Garden on Tuesday, July 23, inviting local residents to engage in conversation with Master Gardeners and environmentalists.

The community garden has dozens of raised beds and in-ground plots that community members can rent on an annual basis. A 4' x 12' raised bed costs $25 per year, while a 15' x 30' in-ground plot costs $50. Those interested in renting can find more information here.

Raised bed gardens are watered daily with a sprinkler system and gardeners are responsible for the regular maintenance and upkeep of their plots.

KSBB coordinator Charlie Kinship explained that the group wants to improve the gardening area, including replacing the pebble walkways with grass and weeding the old gardens.

Other environmental activists and community leaders also attended the social gathering to discuss plans for future trash cleanups and conservation efforts in the area.

KSBB will host an “Edventure Workshop” at Kennedy Pond Preserve on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 9am to 12pm and will feature guest speakers, family activities, nature walks and more.

You can also find out more about local environmental projects by attending KSBB and Greener Boro committee meetings. KSBB board meetings are held the third Monday of each month at noon in the Statesboro City Council Room, and committee meetings are held the first Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 pm in the City Council Room.
