Gardening all year round: Annual garden tour returns to Colorado Springs' historic district | Lifestyle

Mark your calendars now and make plans to attend another year's highly acclaimed Colorado Springs Garden Tour.

By popular demand, this year's tour will return to the Patty Jewett Neighborhood (the last tour was in 2017) and will also visit the nearby Bonnyville neighborhood, both just a short distance from downtown Colorado Springs. In fact, most of the garden tour can be reached on foot or by bike, a popular feature of past tours.

The six gardens visited on this year's tour are sure to inspire all who attend.

Visit an artsy garden, find peace in a sanctuary garden, or learn how to attract pollinators to your own garden. Pet lovers will know how to arrange their own garden if they too believe that “dogs are the best.”

Another garden shows how salvaged materials can be reused to add character to the landscape and incorporate local history, and one of the gardens transitions from a shady to a sunny garden when the forces of nature kill the older trees.

As in previous years, Colorado Master Gardeners will be in each garden to answer questions about plants and gardening tips, and local outdoor garden artists will be painting different parts of the gardens.

Participants are asked to wear comfortable shoes, a sun hat, sunscreen, and bring water and a camera. FOX will provide a printed garden tour guide to document plants and memorable ideas. Please note that private gardens may not be accessible with strollers, walkers, or wheelchairs due to narrow paths and stairs. Additionally, bicycles are not permitted in private gardens. Only active service dogs are permitted.

Each year, the Colorado Springs Garden Tour receives praise from participants and garden owners alike. Since its inception in 2011, this popular annual tour has showcased gardens throughout the city, including Divine Redeemer, Middle Shooks Run, West Side, Old North End, Patty Jewett, University Park, Village 7, Old Farm, Mountain Shadows, Rockrimmon and the Broadmoor neighborhoods.

Tickets for the tour are $25 for adults and free for children under 13. Tickets are good for both days of the tour and can be purchased at local garden centers (cash or check only) and on eventbrite.com (search for Colorado Springs garden tours).

Proceeds from the tour will benefit FOX, an independent 501©(3) organization whose mission is to raise funds for agriculture, food/nutrition, horticulture and youth development programs in El Paso County, including but not limited to El Paso County Extension.
