On April 25th, members of the Bermuda Run Garden Club visited Will Ferrell’s Kernersville gardens and enjoyed his collection of blooming azaleas and camellias.

The gardens are also filled with perennials including ferns, hellebores, ivy and other ground covers – it was an eye-opening experience and an opportunity to learn about plant propagation.

Ferrell is a local gardening authority who has written extensively about his gardening experiences and speaks to many area Master Gardener organizations and garden clubs.

The May meeting was held at Elderberry Creek Farm and Nursery in Pfafftown. Owner James Helms told us about the plants he grows, including some lesser known perennials. Helms said native plants need to be used to increase beneficial insect populations. Members also shopped for plants. The business meeting followed lunch at Sherwood Restaurant.

The May event concluded with the Centerpiece Committee, chaired by Peggy Schuppert, designing and creating 25 centerpieces for each table at the breakfast for the annual Crosby Scholars Invitational Golf Tournament held at Bermuda Run Country Club. The designs featured red flags with the Crosby emblem and baskets filled with golf balls, featuring spider webs and ferns. The committee also created tall centerpieces for the check-in tables to greet the golfers.
