From Luther to Lilacs! Action hero and actor Idris Elba adds gardening company to his growing business ventures

Action hero and British actor Idris Elba is looking for more lucrative opportunities for his new business ventures and is considering setting up his own gardening company.

The Luther star, who boasts a net worth of £40million, is developing a horticulture business which will trade under the name Growing Media.

Newly filed documents seen by Mail Online show that Mr Elba, 51, is looking to launch his own fertiliser range, which will include products such as peat moss, bark, rice husk and wood fibre.

The news was announced by the actor, who has just returned from a stint in Ibiza where he DJed for stars including models Amy Jackson and Leomie Anderson.

Idris Elba has starred in BBC's Luther and HBO's The Wire, but he's also known for his many talents: DJing under the stage name “Big Dolly's”, producing rap music and dabbling in kickboxing.

Now he joins Alan Titchmarsh and Charlie Dimmock on another successful venture at Growing Media.

In 2002, he landed a lead role in the HBO series “The Wire,” playing drug lord lieutenant Russell “Stringer” Bell.

Elba is perhaps best known for his starring role in the six-episode BBC television series Luther, which aired in 2010.

In 2013, Elba was named Essence magazine's “Sexiest Man Alive” of the Year, and in 2018, he was named People magazine's “Sexiest Man Alive.”

In 2024, Elba denied rumors that he would be replacing Daniel Craig as the next James Bond after fans wanted him to be selected for the role.

Elba was recently nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series at the 55th annual NAACP Image Awards in March for his performance in the Apple TV+ thriller series Hijack.

Also competing in the category were Forest Whitaker (Godfather of Harlem), Jabari Banks (Bel-Air), Jesse L. Martin (Irrational) and Damson Idris (Snowfall), and the competition was tough, but Damson came out victorious.
