Hay fever sufferers are well accustomed to the horrible bouts of itchy, watery eyes and sneezing that turn summer into a stuffy-nosed nightmare.

Many people turn to antihistamines and other medications to combat these pesky symptoms, but for those looking for a more natural treatment, a gardening expert on TikTok might have just the answer. Known on the social platform as @viewfromthepottingbench, the gardening guru shared what he believes is a rather unconventional method: “Have you heard of this crazy cure for hay fever? They say that stabbing yourself with nettles will stop some of the hay fever symptoms.”

He claims to have tried the nettle technique himself with good results, saying: “All I've been doing for the past few weeks is dabbing nettles on my wrists and arms. It stings but it works. Has anyone else tried it? It worked for me and I think it might work for you too.”

The NHS points out that for people who suffer from hay fever, symptoms tend to peak between late March and September, especially when the weather is warm, damp and windy, meaning there are higher pollen counts.

According to the Express, unlike a common cold, which usually goes away after a week or two, hay fever lasts much longer, often lasting for weeks or even months.
