A 24-year-old bricklayer, Adedapo Ayobami, from Ojaoba area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has been arrested for allegedly breaking into the house of a local herbal trader and stealing electrical appliances and kitchen utensils.
Ayobami was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) of the Osun State Command during a routine patrol in Osunjera area.
A statement by the NSCDC spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, said the arrests were made on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
In a statement, Commander of the Osun State Crimes Punishment Commission, Michael Adararewa, who gave further details on Ayobami’s arrest, said the suspect, in his confession, had previously disclosed that the herbalist had given him spiritual soap with a view to improving his financial situation.
He added that he was supposed to receive the soap every month, but last received it in April, but when he returned in May, he found that the herbalist had passed away.
The statement read, “The suspect was arrested on the afternoon of Thursday, May 23, 2024, in Osunjera area of Osun State by operatives of the State Police Command who were patrolling the area.”
In his confession, the suspect stated that before the householder's death, he was a herbalist and had gifted him traditional soap to improve his financial condition.
“He said the herbalist had told him that he would be collecting traditional soap every month. He went to the herbalist's house to collect May's supply of soap, but on arriving there he was told that the herbalist had passed away and he returned home disappointed.
The governor urged citizens to be safety conscious, question any suspicious activity around them and report it to state security agencies, noting that suspects would be produced before court after investigations were completed.
The Osun State Police Command, on Wednesday, May 15, said its operatives had arrested and recovered four motorcycles from a suspected serial motorcycle robber, Wahab Sabri, in Ede.
