A gardening enthusiast has shared tips on how to boost plant growth using a unique homemade fertiliser.

Carmen Johnston took to Facebook to share the great results she's had from using “banana peel water.” She claims the water has transformed some parts of her garden, including the growth of herbs, and said it's also had a great effect on flowers, vegetables and tomatoes. “I just wanted to share a tip with you all – I use banana peel water,” she explained.

“Take two banana peels and soak them in a gallon of water overnight. Use the banana peel water to water your plants. It's full of potassium and other nutrients. It can be used on vegetables, flowers and herbs. No need to refrigerate. I keep a pitcher of water on hand and add more water as I use up the water. I also add the peels when I eat it.

“The skins turn brown, but you can discard them after adding the skins. This is a great organic fertilizer. It works great for veggies, herbs, flowers, tomatoes. I also use it on peppers. I have big spearmint plants and waist-high dill. I have heaps of green cherry tomatoes and beautiful peppers.”, r

The tip has caused a huge reaction among gardening enthusiasts, with over 2,000 comments, reports Devon Live. Christy Helen said: “Finally I've found a use for those bananas I bought. I'd looked at them but never eaten them,” while El Baloo commented: “Great. Thanks for the tip. I'm using the banana peels to grow aloe vera.”

Baking in the Glen added: “Thank you for sharing, the herbs look big and beautiful. My herbs never hold up or give a good harvest so I'm glad to get this tip.”
