David Beckham fans are calling for the BBC to broadcast a gardening show dedicated to the footballer.

The former England captain, 49, shared a video of himself planting a rose bush from the Queen of Sweden in the garden of his £6 million Cotswold farmhouse on Sunday (9 June).

The video, filmed by his wife Victoria, 50, shows Beckham wearing jeans and a flat cap, digging soil with a shovel to plant shrubs. In the caption of his Instagram post, the player calls himself “Gardener Dave”.

This isn't the first time Beckham has shown off his horticultural talents: his gardening posts have garnered over a million likes, with fans describing him as “the gardening influencer we didn't know we needed.”

Victoria previously shared a video of David feeding the chickens they keep in the grounds of their huge countryside home.

“The next BBC4 show is Gardening with Becks,” one fan mused. “Can we please do a reality show where it's just you and Victoria gardening?” asked another.

Other followers praised Beckham's gardening post as their “favourite thing on social media” and thanked the footballer for being “positive and making the world a better place”.

Last week, Beckham revealed that his friendship with King Charles grew over their shared love of beekeeping.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player met King Charles at his Highgrove estate last month after being appointed a goodwill ambassador for the King's Foundation.

He said: “During my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens it was incredibly inspiring to hear from The King about the work of His Majesty's Foundation and share some beekeeping tips.”

“I've always wanted to help broaden the horizons of young people and I'm especially looking forward to supporting the Foundation's education programs and efforts to better connect young people with nature,” Beckham said of his new role.

Beckham's passion for beekeeping began during lockdown when he spent time at his family's Cotswolds home building hives in the garden.

On World Bee Day last year, Beckham posted a video to Instagram showing him tending to a beehive, and in another post he was seen standing next to a beehive with the caption: “Be kind and the bees will be kind.”

In the Netflix documentary “Beckham,” which chronicles Victoria and David's lives and careers, the couple jokingly debates what to call their freshly harvested honey.

“There's a little debate going on in the house right now. I think Golden Beads is better. Victoria likes DBee'z Sticky Stuff,” he told the cameras.
