2024 Extension Master Gardener℠ Volunteer Certification Training

(currituck.ces.ncsu.edu)

Do you enjoy gardening and talking to others about gardening? Do you have a passion for giving back to your community? If so, consider becoming part of an Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteer. Extension Master Gardener volunteers are an outreach group that is part of NC Cooperative Extension and NC State University. These volunteers contribute to their communities by sharing research-based information on gardening-related issues and local beautification projects.

To become a Certified Extension Master Gardener volunteer, you receive horticulture and plant science training at your local Cooperative Extension Center through a 13-week course taught by a variety of local instructors and extension personnel. New volunteers are encouraged to get involved in a variety of activities and events throughout the year, including organizing the annual Community Flower and Garden Show each spring, an annual plant sale each fall, maintaining a local landscaping demonstration garden, propagating and tending a greenhouse filled with a wide variety of plants, presenting educational programs, and partnering with local 4-H garden clubs and elementary schools.

Classes for the course will begin on Thursday, September 5, 2024 and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the NC Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center, 120 Community Way, Barco, NC. 27917, and will conclude on December 5, 2024. The cost of the class is $75, which includes state fees, nametags, soil sample testing, and other course supplies. All class materials can be accessed online for free. If you would like a hard copy coursebook, the cost is $135. Sign up on Eventbrite now using this link: https://CurrituckMasterGardenerCourse.eventbrite.com
